Train’s lead singer, Pat Monahan, stated in an interview that he wrote this song after his mother passed away, as an expression of the idea that even though her life on earth was over, she returned to him in spirit. These lines are metaphorical in nature, likening his mother’s death to a temporary trip to the heavens, from which her spirit returned with a heavenly glow as evidence of where she’d been.

It’s also worth noting that the planet Jupiter’s rain is composed of diamonds, rather than water. The notion that “drops of Jupiter” are adamantine can be read as an expression of Pat’s respect and affection for his mother; that her spirit returned wearing a crown.

“Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)” was the lead single from Train’s second studio album, Drops of Jupiter, released in 2001. Taking the music industry by storm, the song catapulted Train from obscurity to rock superstardom, winning the Grammy for the “Best Rock Song” in 2002.

Though this song can be interpreted in a number of different ways, Train’s lead singer Pat Monahan explained in a VH-1 interview that the song was inspired by the death of his mother, who battled lung cancer for many years.

Her downfall was Coca-Cola and Winstons.

SGP likens the rap game to a fine woman (much like Eminem does in “Seduction”) that he plans to steal or take over with the end goal of earning money, power, and respect as an emcee.

These lines lines could also generally refer to his understanding that he must actively go after the things he wants in life, taking the things he desires rather than waiting for for them to come to him.

Or maybe he just fucked your bitch.
