Darvon is a brand name for Dextropropoxyphene. It’s more commonly known as Darvoset. It’s opiate used as a pain killer and mild muscle relaxer. It got taken off the market in 2010 because it contained propoxyphene, which was the same stuff that was in Sudafed before they formulated their product to use pseudoephedrine instead.

Mark and the girls were using it recreationally in conjunction with alcohol.

This is the feeling described in Zach Braff’s movie Garden State (which coincidentally enough, takes place in New jersey)…Coming back to your hometown and having it not feel like home anymore.
