Fame is held in a very high regard and is considered quite the rarity.

Science has shown that many performers (whether or not they realize) tend to suffer from a low self-esteem. So it is hard for them to picture themselves winning anything. B.o.B set a life goal and achieved it; he’s basically won at life.

Seems a little angry in this picture though, maybe he’s an egotist and he can’t believe he’s only made it this far (instead of achieving super-duper fame).

‘The City that never sleeps’ is a famous name for New York City, which Abel changes up a bit. It’s also notable that this girl was his West Coast Girl; and now he’s on the East Coast, as the two coasts have had a few issues before.

He’s faded off drugs normal druggies don’t/shouldn’t take, most people smoke weed and that’s it, but Abel is known for his consumption of Lean, most notable due to his crew being labelled ‘XO’. But he also refers to cocaine later in the song,

I’m still dripping down from my nose

Again, this shows that he is conscious that what he is doing to his body is wrong, but it’s more a part of his lifestyle than an addiction.

Abel shoots us simultaneously a dark warning and a boasting challenge. His catalog is filled with tales of his lavish life, countless sexual encounters, and an unhealthy love for drugs. In our society, just about all of these things are desires and goals, from the beautiful new home and the bitches down to fuck he croons about earlier in the song. The problem is, as he repeatedly relates to us throughout the record’s second half, almost none of these things have produced a healthy lifestyle for him, and though as a society we revere these possessions and the way Abel lives his life, he suggests the darkness of these achievements are much deeper than the good they’ve produced for him. And yet, never one to be humble, he tells us even if we tried, we’d probably never reach his point anyway to walk a mile in his shoes.
