Johnny Blaze is the Marvel character Ghost Rider’s alter-ego. This line refers to Johnny’s personality before he ‘transformed’ into the superhero ghost-rider.

The backstory of the comic includes a very in-depth look at Johnny’s background in driving, including work as a stunt driver in a travelling circus.

O.C. likens himself to this character quite suitably, considering the fact that the motif of this track centers around crazy driving.

In Memphis, on the day of the assassination of Martin Luther King, it is rumored that Special Forces stationed an “Alpha 184” team on the scene, before any of the events had unfolded, to ensure the assassination of King in case James Earl Ray was unable to finish his assignment (assassinating Martin Luther).

Punch uses the wordplay between “oh lord” and “blasphemy,” cleverly incorporating a religious motif into a politically charged line. He uses this wordplay to say that he doesn’t want anybody to “blast for me” (homophonous with “blasphemy”). Punch uses this statement to say that he’d rather be a martyr than have people shoot back at the assassin or defend him.
