I would argue Kanye’s beef is about control rather than being anti-corporate or anti-capitalist. He dreams of being the visionary leader of a billion dollar corporation like Steve Jobs, so to use the slavery analogy, he wants to become the slave master.

Consumers spending beyond their means may be called the “new slaves” in the song but the closest to real slaves are the people making and assembling the consumer products, like the workers making Apple products in China and other countries.

I’m sure that the vast majority of people in the record industry get paid a lot less than Kanye. Jasiri might be making a valid point about power, control and censorship, much of it self-imposed but to say they are on the bottom of the pay scale is just untrue.

Drake puts his dad’s voice on the track like he did for his grandmother on “Look what you’ve done” to describe how they have that everlasting bond and he’s still the same person.

Drake and Dennis used to listen to music driving from Toronto to Memphis and back when Dennis would spend time with him. This is why Dennis is saying they went through EVERYTHING. They had time on their hands to create a shared musical history.

“I’d never fly to Memphis; my dad would always pick me up in Toronto and we’d drive, and it was like 21 hours,” says Drake. “On that drive he would just play me the greatest music, and then bring me to Beale Street and drive around the city, and I started to understand what it was about Memphis.”

Intro quote from a 1967 speech by civil rights activist and attorney Thomas ‘TNT’ Todd about Vietnam deserters.

Todd is parodying a slogan of Tareyton cigarettes, who had ran an ad campaign in the 60’s stating that their smokers “would rather fight than switch” to another brand.

Ever wondered how the rich and impatient do Disney World?

Allegedly for a $1,000 a day you can hire a black market tour guide who uses a motorized scooter labelled “Disabled” to skip the queues. Instead of joining the line for the general public, your party will be sent to a different entrance every time with no queue.

While some kids wait on line for hours your kid can be on that ride in minutes.

Or you can do like Tom Cruise and pay a few million to shut down a theme park just for your kids for the day.

Exclusive vacation accommodation in the Maldives doesn’t involve merely a luxury room in a hotel block on dry land. Instead you get your own villa on stilts over the water with a glass bottomed floor so you can watch the tropical fish.

Huvafen Fushi in the Maldives.

It’s even possible to hire the entire resort at a cost of a few million per day if you want complete exclusivity and privacy.

We value cars over a sense of community. Hedonism and materialism (of the type often promoted in rap videos) over family, friends and neighbors. By driving around in status symbol cars, these values then infect the next generation further weakening the fabric of communities.

Also in car dominated cities like Los Angeles there are sharp physical divides between different demographics. As well as promoting sedentary lifestyles, cars make it harder to foster community compared to areas dominated by pedestrians.

#Compare Los Angeles:

#to Copenhagen:

No prizes for guessing which city spends more on rims.
