A reference to Otis Chandler, the Los Angeles Times publisher whose mother Dorothy Chandler was a cultural leader. These days people have “all white parties”, not the racist kind, at the Dorothy Chandler pavillion named after her.

This also shed’s light on the relocation of mainly poor minorities in the inner city. “An all white Los Angeles” refers to removing the people of color and making the city dominated by white residents, because those driven by greed want to make money off of the land that is inhabited by the poor residents.

The card game pokeno is often played in casinos. Most of America just picture the whole Native American race as the “casino owners”. Most of them have nothing to do with casinos, and had to give up all their land just for the right to own one. Fair trade right?

Also should be noted that the word “pekeno” sounds similar to the Spanish word for small, “pequeño”. Meaning that the Native Americans were given very little in return for having to give up their whole culture.

As an interesting side note: when the Lakota were building their casino, the state of South Dakota made gambling legal state-wide, drastically reducing any potential profits.

America’s European colonizers did irreparable damage to Native Americans. They stole their land passively and forcefully, introduced many debilitating infectious diseases, created scalp bounties, and introduced them to alcohol to encourage alcoholism, which gave them further control as they controlled the alcohol.

Some Native people traded anything they owned for alcohol, which left them destitute and defenseless against winter temperatures. This was not quality alcohol. The so-called whiskey given out by traders for buffalo robes and other furs was a lethal concoction of alcohol mixed with anything that would give it colour and substance—bluestone, burnt sugar, castile soap, Jamaica Ginger, Perry Davis Painkiller, tea, ink, and sometimes, horrifically, strychnine (a poison).
– Margaret A. Kennedy, The Whiskey Trade of the Northwestern Plains

Notably, this album is a sequel to his 2006 debut album, Lupe Fiasco’s Food and Liquor. During a promotional interview for the album, Lupe explained its title, sharing, “In Chicago, a lot of the corner stores are called Food & Liquor […] alcohol is like a bad thing to me. So the liquor represents the bad, and the food represents the good.” Thus, “wine” also represents the white man’s evil.

Ride is paranoid due to an overload of stimulation, not unlike that in Huxley’s “Brave New World”. The gist of Brave New World was that society was overloaded by so much stimuli that they became a docile and lifeless herd. Ride clearly doesn’t want to fuck with that.
