This is in response to the comments that were run in the Rolling Stone interview which hit stands today.

There were some real questionable bars on there. Like that ‘Swaghili’ line? Come on, man. Fabolous wouldn’t say some shit like that.

It’s unclear what Drake is getting at here, but it seems that he may be claiming those comments were made off the record. But come on we all know Drake fucks with Yeezus. Right?

Drake has a point here. Macklemore has a long history of dealing with his guilt throughout his music, but this is the Grammys. If you are too guilty to stand behind your work and just accept your award, then why should anyone else accept you? In this case it just seemed that Macklemore put out this picture to gain support from the Kendrick fans and separate himself from the controversy surrounding the situation in the hip-hop world. Drake’s point is that a great wouldn’t degrade themselves, and in turn their music, to the point where they are sending text messages consoling the loser and immediately posting that picture to Instagram. Could you imagine Jay-Z doing that? Kendrick? Kanye (#mylaugh)?

Referring to the infamous moment when Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child fame fell on stage.

And Jaleel White who portrayed the clumsy and nerdy Steve Urkel in the television series Family Matters

In other words, yeah, Kendrick did fuck your bitch but it was totally by “accident”.

Referring to the Book of Ecclesiastes which states,

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher,
vanity of vanities! All is vanity

The Book goes on to claim that all of the actions of men at the time were inherently meaningless. In a similar way Punch asserts that the killings that are occurring in his city are nothing more than vain men killing other men for meaningless reasons.

This refers to the mindset that Kendrick has talked about on many of his songs both before and after the release of C4. If it comes down to it Kendrick is going to make sure you pay for your sins.

Notice the emphasis of the word “we” in the hook. This refers to the “mob mentality” that can be summed up with Kendrick’s own words

That’s ironic because I’ve never been violent, until I’m with the homies

Beating the case is a common term meaning the lawyer will help the defendant get off for a crime they committed. In this case Sean’s dick is the case and his girl is going to help him “get off” by beating him off. This line also continues the judicial system theme started in the previous line with “I’ll plead the fifth”.

From Jay-Z to John Legend to Common, and a myriad of others, Kanye was able to compile a list of featured artists and contributors that a rapper releasing his debut album could only dream of.

While every contributor helped in their own individual way, Kanye was masterfully able to use their input and construct a cohesive work of art. As Kanye always says,

To use is necessary. And if you can’t be used, then you’re useless

Reference to Malcolm X’s iconic By Any Means Necessary speech he delivered in 1965.

This line is actually derived from a translation of a phrase Nobel Prize winner Jean-Paul Sartre coined in his play Dirty Hands

I was not the one to invent lies: they were created in a society divided by class and each of us inherited lies when we were born. It is not by refusing to lie that we will abolish lies: it is by eradicating class by any means necessary.
-Jean Paul Sartre, 1963
