“Cat” being a slang phrase referring to an individual. The same applies to the term “dog” which could also be used to refer to an individual.

It’s also a metaphor of the saying, “when it rains it pours” (meaning that trouble for dave’s brother just seems to exponentially grow and never get better).

Half of the full track, the other half being “Dying of Thirst”. This half is about people Kendrick knew that died, who wanted to have their stories portrayed through his music.

The story teller of verse 1 loved Kdot because Kendrick loved the storytellers brother. He wanted Kdot to tell this story through his lyrics once he made it big. Nevertheless, Kdot made it, and lord knows he told the fuck out the dude’s story.

This life was forced on them by our government. By saying “but it’s all good,” Jay portrays the idea that he has grown accustomed to these people being from the same neighborhood. .

Serpents represent those who will turn you in or “snake” on you. If you don’t keep those whom you roll with in check/ keep your circle small (grass cut), there are bound to be snakes lurking. One of the gangs that originated in the Nickerson Gardens was the Bounty Hunter BLOODS.

Them serpents lurking could be a play on words referring to the garden of Eden and the story of Adam and Eve in the book of Genesis; implying that serpents are also in his place temping people.

Jay Rock is from the infamous Nickerson Gardens section 8 projects in Watts, California. He plays off the name of his project housing (“gardens”) but unlike most gardens, his was unkept.

Reminiscent of the girl from Rozay’s “Diced Pineapples” track, Sophia Marie, though she’s probably sporting hair extensions. Surely, this is still referring to Nebby, though they both fit the description.
