Obviously Papa Doc isn’t going to put his hands up on his opponent’s command during a battle, instead predictably standing stone-faced. Rabbit uses his opponent’s predictability to his advantage, presenting Papa Doc’s stillness as an admission that he isn’t really from Detroit.

This subtly sets up the end of the battle, when Rabbit accuses Papa Doc of being from the suburbs and going to private school.
