I wrote this verse around the time the movie ‘The Dictator’ dropped. I was really sick of all the misinterpreted histories that we seem to simplify in our work. I decided to explain the world as I see it, with this point of reference as an explanation.
My issue with the movie was not that it was about a Dictator, but about the timing it dropped. How Ironic was it that this movie drops when Arabs are finally standing up against the systemized destruction of the right to self to both belittle the importance of this time in history, but also their struggle. Although this movies production started before the so-called Arab Spring, it just felt fishy.
I wrote this verse as an overview of what our media is feeding us, really to smash the television, smash the radio. I was asked to be on a track with a brother who wrote the original concept that matched the verse, so I used it.
Sasha Baron Cohen is an a$$hole. I stand by it. Everyone of his movies had an Arab/Muslim character that was backwards and frail in comparison to the others. He always seemed to be doing the wrong thing, without realising it.
Though the ending of the film justified the means, I’m not feeling you B.
