This doesn’t literally mean his blood.

Instead, he uses what is ‘inside of him’ (veins) to make his lyrics (paint).

This is also the essence of existential philosophy. For Sartre, this meant using our consciousness to determine our life like a painter uses paint to shape his canvas.

A proclamation that time is nothing but a distraction from one’s happiness and life, and by theory, space is also included in that. You should be yourself and everything that surrounds you is separate from you. The idea of a God is so complex that we will never fully understand it, so we distract ourselves with Earthly things.

Does it matter if or which God is real? Macklemore thinks its really about humans and how we treat each other.

The belief in impermanence is one of the Buddhist marks of existence ‘annica’. This belief is that everything will eventually die, hence the second part ‘lack of attachments’

Two cities on opposite sides of Ireland. Dublin is the capital of Ireland.

Galway is in the west of Ireland and is part of where the Irish were sent during Cromwell’s invasion. It’s more traditional than the east and there are parts of it where most people still speak Irish as their first language.

Guinness is the most famous Irish beer. Its a dark beer, strong and smooth.

Due to the strong, unusual flavour, Guiness is something of an acquired taste. Because of this, even in Ireland it’s a lot more common to see dad’s and grandfathers drinking it than young men.

They’re normally peaceful, but if you mess with them they will mess you up.

First line is a reminder of how troughout history the Irish people have always sought to fight back against their oppressors. The phrase ¨get a bloody jaw¨ accompanied by a punch gesture in the music video is without any doubt a reference to Ireland´s culture of boxing. As an example, more than half of Ireland´s Olympic medals are of boxing.

The second line emphasizes the fact that the Irish manage to balance a very active remembrance of their bloody history (as illustrated below by one of the many poignant memorials that dot the country) not with grudge and the will for revenge but with the wisdom of non violence.

They’re magically delicious!

More seriously: this line means ¨Don’t touch our land/country.¨

Adherents of St. Patrick (the patron saint of Ireland), adopted the Four leaf clover as a symbol of Irish luck due to the fact that clovers are abundant in the hills of Ireland. A four-leaf clover was consistently believed to be a lucky charm. This very old Irish verse describes why:

One leaf is for fame,
And one leaf is for wealth,
And one is for a faithful lover,
And one to bring you glorious health,
Are all in the four-leaved clover.

The Irish fought the English when they tried to colonize Ireland and make it part of the United Kingdom. While Ireland was colonised and was under British rule for several hundred years, it became a free state through the Irish War of Independance around 1920 and gained full independance democratically in 1937. This is why Ireland still isn’t a part of the UK today.

Molotov cocktails were a weapon of choice of the IRA which was formed as a result of British oppression and their presence in Ireland. The IRA fought for the freedom of Ireland and to try and push the British out of their country thus “protect what’s ours.”
