This brings us back to what Littlefinger said in episode 8

People die at their dinner tables. They die in their beds. They die squatting over their chamber pots. Everybody dies sooner or later.

Also notice Shae is wearing the golden necklace Tyrion tried to give to her in Season 3

This is the second time a necklace is used to kill someone this season

“The Children” references the Children of the Forest, whom we meet for the first time. They were the original inhabitants of Westeros, long before the First Men arrived.

But this episode also very much focuses on all of our main characters as children: they are all acting in relation to their parents, even as they become the prime movers in the world. Over the course of the episode, Arya, Tyrion, Jon, Bran, and Cersei all make major decisions to take on or reject literal or figurative parents.

It premiered on Father’s Day.

This episode was 66 minutes, making it the longest running episode of the series to date, and attracted 7.1 million viewers.

I think the idea that Ygritte is gone from the world is almost as difficult for Jon as the idea that Rose Leslie is no longer on the show is difficult for us

It’s so real. It’s so convincingly put together that I just walked in here and saw massive potential. It’s why I conceived this 360 degree crane shot that we came up with. It is a 360 degree set, there’s nothing to suggest it’s not real. So I thought, well let’s do something that encompasses that somehow.
- Neil Marshall (director of this episode)

This shot was rehearsed for an hour and only took 7 takes to get right
