All day the day after, reddened the skies

The singer references when he and his love saw the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s to remind her that they have at least one thing in common and not all of their relationship is lost, giving them a glimmer of hope for their future.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s is often praised for actress Audrey Hepburn’s fantastic performance, it won an Academy Award for best song and also currently holds an 88% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Possibly chosen to reflect they’re gonna end up together as per the film.
Amusing in the book, where the relationship is asexual
Because of the girlfriend’s high level of vagueness (“As I recall, I think we both kinda liked it?”), the implication is that their watching the movie wasn’t a memorable, significant event in their relationship. This in turn indicates that perhaps their relationship is not very close and the singer is desperately trying to keep it going, despite the girlfriend’s opinions. In a nutshell, she doesn’t think the relationship is going anywhere and wants to leave, but he’s being clingy and trying to prove that they have had bonding moments to convince her to stay.
This could also mean the Truman Capote novella “Breakfast At Tiffany’s,” which is VERY different from the film.
And yet, the partner’s vagueness (“I think we both kinda liked it”?) doesn’t imply it was a bonding experience for them.
