Lady Gaga was originally signed by Def Jam but was dropped only three months later, before she had been able to release any music. She is saying that she was putting a lot of effort into creating her music and starting her career, but felt as if she wasn’t getting the same level of effort and dedication in return from the label.

Cobain was a “different” person or “out there”, as one may say. He has always been that way and he was one to make something out of nothing. Most of his songs were written and he couldn’t read his own handwriting so he would improvise, or freestyle his songs as he recorded. He can make a “light” metaphorically when there is none

The sun is gone is a reference to his low mood. But at least he has a light, a reference to a cigarette lighter and so he can continue his self destructive attempts at self medication. These provide symbolic light to counteract the darkness he experiences most of the time but ultimately worsen the problem. The lyric is sarcastic but poignant in a way that communicates hopelessness, indifference, self-loathing and contempt for society as a whole.

“the sun is gone” is referring to his tendency to fall into depressed states, and “but I have a light” is a reference to his tendency to use drugs to escape.

“the sun is gone” is a metaphor referring to depression. but he has a light (which could be a wordplay of him having a lighter to smoke, which gives him light/happiness.)

“The sun is gone” suggests depression but he has a lighter to get high. Which ties into the other two lines, he can pretend to be happy, he can fake it by dumbing himself down and getting high.

Also, it’s a play on words – the sun is gone (i.e. he’s not really happy), but he has a light(er -implying substance abuse) so it’s OK.
