The old man apparently bluffs the narrator off, only for the latter to push on him. The numbers represent both age (he’ll never find fulfiment in growing old) and the common life (working as a banker, for instance) on the “mile”, a metaphor for life.

Could be a dark reference to the videogame Resident Evil 4, in which the enemies are called “ganados”, which means cattle in Spanish. Also a large part of the game occurs inside a gothic castle.

This line and following line. “From the saddle of my horse tied to this tabernacle.” While I was doing research for said line it turns out the tabernacle was the place to worship god during the exodus of Egypt and the Jews journey to the holy land Jerusalem where the first temple they built was then the place of worship.

The two lines mean is that his journey, given him being Jewish, is that he is on his way to the holy land to battle the impure(because most cattle is not prepared kosher) and he will do it while on horseback tied to a place of worship. Its a crazy line but is just a short version of how the Jews made there way to the holy land while adding in some cool rhymes and Jewish references.

Despite all the nonsensical connections in this last verse, it does have meaning.

Notice how, despite the fact that the narrator (be it Mac or Thomas) isn’t focusing on anything, they are slowly turning into a single speaker, dubbing their voices over the same thoughts, flows and expressions. This is also evident due to the fact right before Mac’s verse, it sounds as if the radio is getting staticy, as if a signal were breaking through. This is most likely the splicing of Mac and DT forming into one, as stated earlier. This is a way to indicate a couple of things:

  1. That, in the context of the mixtape, Thomas has taken over control of Mac’s mind, thus driving him insane.

  2. That in the end, Thomas and Mac are really just parts of the same person, and that we must embrace and comprehend the darker side of our minds as much as we appreciate the light side. In the end is a song about self-acceptance.

Notice the focus-blur wordplay.

The narrator finds himself in an orgy.

This could be a hint at L'Histoire de L'Oeil by George Bataille. Another one of Elias' favorite books.

In a sense, it feels like that.

The chorus shows us that love may not be as simple as one might think. If you peer beyond the looking glass, all seems to turn around, spelling out a cruel fate.

Young love may seem eternal and perfect, but in the end its fragile, imaginary and unlikely to last.

“Beneath all your darkest fears” lies the possibility that romantic love is not real. Not in the way you once thought anyhow.
