In most cases the desired things in life will lead to compromise in some form. E.G. Love will probably have heartbreak on the way and hard work is necessary to make good money. Both things we could want out of life.

In many cases one will also have to be sacrificed for the other.

A webzine is simply a magazine posted to the internet. In 2005, this may have seemed like a common term — but today it seems a bit odd. It’ll be similar to a “wet dream” to the writers, which is another name for a sexual dream. The websites can’t wait to talk about Panic! because of their edgy themes.

The band’s image allows them to be recognized immediately by pandering to the alternative rock audience (making them an attractive band for record companies looking for a quick buck), which in some cases includes “scene kids.” Scene kids are those who are typically interested in a genre of music called “emo.” In 2005, Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy may have fit into this genre.

This further suggests the pressure for bands to make quick success. Bands immediately must be a witty song writer, and have an even greater work ethic than someone who’s already made it. If they’re serious, they must leave everything and tour — that’s how you gain fans.

Unlike in most genres, Panic! needed more than just hooks to make a name in alternative rock. Especially since they’re starting off their career so innovative and unique, they feel the pressure to keep it that way and not fall behind expectations.

This line sets the feeling for the rest of the song. The record label is telling new bands trying to make it on the scene; this being P!ATD’s first album, they’re probably talking to them.

It also suggests that many people have dreams and aspirations, yet never act on them. Instead of allowing themselves to become successful, they just continue to doubt themselves.

Hopefully, in contrast to the failed relationships portrayed on “Emergency” from All We Know Is Falling, Hayley has found a successful exception to her lack of belief in love.

She has grown up in a broken home due to her parents' divorce; this caused her to have cynical views of love. Nonetheless, she now has found someone who’s changed her opinion, he has broken her insecurities and has become her exception to the restrictions she placed on herself regarding love.

She’s saying how this person is the only exception. In previous lines, she stated how she’ll never sing of love, or even fall in love but this person made her break her word. They’re her only exception for love

Hayley’s parents split up when she was a child. She regularly saw them arguing and in a previous interview said that

I remember actually walking out the door with my mom one night and standing in between my parents and screaming “Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!”

These lines reinforce the arguments her parents had and suggest that her father made a terrible mistake, that although he tried to fix it, her mother refused to allow herself to move on from it and would always remember. That lingering resentment may have fueled Hayley’s cynicism about love. She witnessed them stop liking each other and so she was left with bitter feelings toward ‘love’.

(Hayley and her mother)

(Hayley and her father)

She was brought to a place where, romantic love, just wasn’t real.

This line (and most of the song in fact) references the breakup of Williams' parents break up when she was a child. Witnessing a messy divorce can often affect the way someone looks at love. When Hayley sees her parents' love fall apart when she knows that it should be longlasting and thriving, it turns her into a cynic.

This was also later heavily referenced on “The Only Exception”

Paramore’s latest album after the departure of the Farro brothers is a change of style from their previous projects. The band have effectively started again which explains the choice of album title ‘Paramore’.

In an interview with Kevin and Bean of KROQ, Hayley said:

It kind of feels like we just joined this band and we’re starting from scratch. It’s really nice.”

Referencing the time spent between either Paramore’s last studio album (2009 before the split) or project (2011 Singles Club). This sets the tone for the rest of the track.

In an interview with VMusic, Hayley said:

When we got to a certain point in the writing, particularly when Taylor showed me the riff for Now, the waking from the dead line that it opens with kept coming to me. And I felt that. I felt like I was waking up from some black dream, just some dark that I couldn’t be past for so long. And yeah, it did feel very triumphant. And I wanted that to come across in the song.”

Hayley has said that she often feels pretty useless and discontented when she’s away from work for too long. So the four-year gap between Brand New Eyes and Paramore, while good for the band in a lot of ways, was rough at times, too.
In an interview with The Aquarian, Hayley said:

At some point during the time off at home, it really felt like I was asleep for half of it and I wasn’t really living. It was a tough time for us; it’s hard to lose band members. It’s hard to go through life-changing things and there was a point where I had to just wake myself up out of it, shake it off, and the guys, too."
