Obama took office in January 2009 and he immediately had to deal with the continuing repercussions from the September 2008 financial meltdown

Instead of prosecuting the banks for their mishandling of the financial system, the banks got several bailouts (beginning under Bush and continuing with Obama) and for the most part have remained unprosecuted for their gross negligence; on the flipside, things (though now slightly looking up) continue to remain bad for many Americans.

Operation Fast and Furious was started under the Bush administration as a means of tracking gun sales amongst Mexican cartels by selling marked weapons to gun dealers known to be in business with said cartels. However, not all the weapons were properly tracked/recovered and were subsequently used to commit crimes in the United States. Republicans tried to use the resulting scandal as grounds to get rid of Eric Holder, the US attorney general, but he was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing

The implication here is that Obama is somehow no better than the one-percenters he’s claiming to fight against. The problem with this assertion is that unlike Mitt Romney, President Obama started out as one of the “99%” and can actually relate as to the struggles of lower-income and middle-class Americans; additionally, the President has never tried to hide the fact that he is part of the one-percent, frequently pointing out that his tax policies will cause his own rates to go up (and he’s perfectly fine with that)

Dr. King may have believed in justice, equality and fairness for all, but President Obama has had no qualms about unilaterally deploying remote-controlled drones to assassinate terrorists around the world, including American citizens like iman Anwar al-Awlaki who was heavily involved with al-Qaeda – a policy with which Lyons vehemently disagrees
