Bacardi and Coke, black and white cookie Tru Dudes by Childish Gambino (Ft. MC Chris)

The black/white motifs of Bacardi and Coke and the cookie are meant to highlight the racial collab between Gambino (a black dude) and MC Chris (a white dude).

And the implications of a black and white cookie (which is probably an Oreo) in relation to Gambino and his upbringing/career path can’t be ignored.

Lyrically a metaphor, Atlanta's only troubadour Til I Die by Childish Gambino

Troubadours were traveling musicians/composers who performed lyrical poetry for wealthy patrons. A lot of those compositions were intellectual and full of textual subtleties, covering a variety of styles and subjects; most troubadour songs, however, were about chivalry and courtly love.

This comparison is meant to illustrate Gambino’s belief that he brings a higher class of thinking and ability to the rap game

OR he is referencing Green Day. “custom birdie green, dey (they) on dookie like fire” Dookie is the 3rd album from Green Day.

Dookie might also be “Dukie”, another character from The Wire. There’s no real reference there, but i doubt Gambino would say dookie so close to referencing both the wire and one of Duq’s classmates without realizing it.

Get the proper etiquette, bitch you from Connecticut! Til I Die by Childish Gambino

There is a perception that many people who live in the Northeastern part of the United States (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts etc.) are a very formal, elitist, kind of people, so Gambino takes the opportunity to mock anyone who doesn’t quite live up to that impression

I'mma try to modify the subject like a predicate Til I Die by Childish Gambino

In the rules of grammar, the subject identifies what/whom a sentence is about while the predicate contains a descriptive about said subject (an action or other modifier).

Take the following sentence:

Childish Gambino loves to fuck Asian girls.

“Childish Gambino” would be the subject and “loves to fuck Asian Girls” would be the predicate.

Face it; only seen by a few like a unicorn Til I Die by Childish Gambino

In almost all myths involving unicorns, seeing or summoning the beasts requires that one be an exceptionally unique person (being a virgin also helps); basically, Gambino is saying that only the exceptionally good and lucky get to discover him and his music (but they’re probably not virgins…and if they are, they won’t be for long)

I'm not The Wire but I'm like Michael Til I Die by Childish Gambino

Gambino compares himself to the character of Michael Lee from The Wire in that we grew up as a poor, working class black kid (though without half the shit Michael had to deal with)
