Back in the day, when slavery was legal, whips were used to keep slaves in their place. This is a play on words: the brand new whip he’s referring to is also a new car that black people gotta get once they hit baller status; the way he says “for these” sounds a lot like “40s,” the rim size you might find on this new “whip” of his. Ultimately this line implies his own domination of the rap game, just as an actual whip is used to dominate slaves.

Personally I thought by “whip,” Gambino was referring to a car, and he is talking about a new car in this line.

There seems to be a darker meaning here too pertaining to materialism and the reference to slavery being how “things that we own end up owning us” – a la Fight Club.
