The first single from the collaborative project from Aesop Rock and TOBACCO under the group name Malibu Ken.

This song recounts the story of Ricky Kasso, the “Acid King”, who killed his friend Gary Lauwers in Northport, New York in 1984. The murder gained international attention due to news reports that the murder was associated with a satanic cult. Kasso was also a fan of metal bands that existed during the time, and people believed his liking of these bands related to the satanic aspects of the story.

Aes has been interested in Kasso for a while: Ricky previously made an appearance on Catacomb Kids. There, Aes observed that (uptight, presumably religious) people in his town were hysterically, unreasonably afraid of him, even though he was basically a good kid, because he reminded them of Kasso. It’s easy to see why the comparison was drawn; he and Kasso are from the same county, they went to the same high school, they both did a lot of acid and liked “devil music.”

The fourth track off of Open Mike Eagle’s 2018 project, What Happens When I Try to Relax.

This song is actually an update of sorts to one Mike uploaded to Soundcloud around Halloween in 2017, and removed shortly after, titled “Dating Ghosts”.

The song at first stages a hypothetical where OME is dating a ghost, even though he’s alive. This metaphor expands into a commentary about people “ghosting” by not responding to texts, or otherwise losing contact. OME is remarking about the awkwardness experienced when someone ghosts him.

A reference to Jon Lovitz (fantasy booking yarn), a track from Open Mike Eagle’s Dark Comedy project.

Open Mike Eagle also has a song titled Helicopter from his album Art Rap.

Also of note, is that Mike actually brings up the helicopter trope in a few other songs outside of the Dark Comedy project.
