Anything could really be a drug. Not necessarily just talking about controlled substances. Anything that you can grow an addiction to can be a drug. You can drown in water. So remember that, first. In essence, it’s just addiction. Too much of anything can kill you. That part first. But secondly, let’s be responsible. Don’t get carried away. We still got things to do. We still got life to live. And me being an artist, a man of words, I know a lot of people value my opinion and my word is bond. I speak with conviction. So me being a part of this time, I’m listening to music and the narrow subject pieces we were talking about. And I’m still outside. I’m outside too. I’m at these places. I can relate to the songs. I love these songs. But I just wanted to make sure that we talked about these things responsibly.

My little brother, this song should make him feel more comfortable about coming to ask me about it. All of my cousins and my nephews and nieces and godkids, after they hear this. Or anybody, for that matter. Addiction and these things are touchy subjects. Maybe somebody will feel better about talking to me about it. I’d love to talk about it.

Danny Brown. He’s the Adderall Admiral, writing the holy mackerel. That’s Danny. And Saudi, when he said, “Perc 30 flow!” I was trying to use the terms in terms that they’ve been used. Either by an artist you may know or people who you may know or not, or just slang in your area.

That was great wordplay. But true. I’m trying to find the ways to cope with this—real ground level. Real subtle, but we’re trying to deal with these things.

This goes back to Kendrick’s album. We wasn’t taught how to deal with this type of money. It’s not taught in a class. Luckily, we’re a family unit, to where I got great advice on how to make sure I stay financially stable in the midst of all this madness. Not so much of that game is given to entertainers, come to find out. So a lot of us jump out into the water and we don’t know how to swim. So, dealing with those things and all of the vanity, your vices come tenfold. They’ll drown you if you don’t know how to moderate and be careful.

Once again, trying to get to the root of things. My father was killed not too long ago, unfortunately. I didn’t know him that well. But I had father figures in place, luckily. My stepfather Clem. My grandfather Cletus. My uncles. I had father figures. So I don’t have this ill relationship with my father. I had excellent father figures. Excellent mentors. They just followed me everywhere I go to make sure I’m straight. How can I be mad at my dad, right? And I’m the IV, too. The fourth Herbert. I don’t know too many fourths. I don’t think I’ve met another fourth yet.

That sticks with me, and the fact that I didn’t get to really build with him before he passed is something that bothers me a bit. So I’m wondering if the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Come to find out, my best friend Doeburger, his parents grew up with my pops. And he was the life of the party, for sure. He came in faded. Sure enough.

The first line is what made it. “I love my mama. Lord knows I does.” Yes. As literal as I am, that’s high. I’m high. It’s just high, right here. Lord knows I does. Not “Lord knows I do.” I said, “I got this. Yeah, this is hot! This is a high nigga, right here. This nigga high.” The tone of it, I wanted it to be vulnerable. When we do these things—drugs or whatever is ill to you—you think about what your mom would say. Whether you do it or not. I really wanted to stay in the mindset of my mom is watching. My mom is listening. But I need to talk about these things, too. I want to be honest, but my mom is watching. My mom is listening.

For those that don’t know, Dangeroo Kipawaa comes from The Three Stooges. The old version. And Top is old. That’s one of his shows and shit. I guess there’s a part where they were trying to get one of the Three Stooges to read the sign, and he couldn’t. It said “Dangerous. Keep Away.” And he said, “Dangeroo kipawaa.” He finds it so fucking funny, that he’s just like, “Oh my God.”

Now it’s his thing. It’s his whole thing. So, shoutout to him, man. Why he gets a kick out of that is beyond me. This guy, I don’t know. Shoutout to Top Dog.

That was one of his little cults or whatever he had. His little squad. Kind of like how we got HiiiPower. Something like that. Doing this album, based on that book, I wanted to take the stance of a Thelemite, doing this album. I still got a lot of research to do on that subject, alone, because this album is based on the book. It’s just that I wanted to take that stance for everybody that’s following music culture and its influences. It’s like some rock ‘n’ roll shit. Led Zeppelin type. I feel so godly. It’s crazy.

A swami is kind of like a teacher for God or for the most high. And I referenced Jay Electronica as the asiatic black god. That’s how I identified with him.

It comes out of my love and respect for Capital Steez and Pro Era for going through what they went through. And is just a reminder that this is entertainment, and the cameras are still rolling. Real life really is happening at the same time. Capital Steez family, still gotta watch. They still gotta hear these things. So let’s be careful about how we’re going about being artists and entertainers. We gotta be held accountable for what we say and what we do. So, let’s be positive. Let’s keep it hip-hop.

The Battle Mongers, that was a clique in the black planet freestyle chat. Back in the day, you had the tagline you could put next to your name. Like real creative with the HTML and stuff like that. I was a grim reaper. I was Area 51. You know, different internet crews. So Battle Mongers was one of the first crews when I first got introduced to it. And you know, I was terrible coming in and they used to kick me out the room using cool little HTML codes and shit like that. Boot me from the room like “Get him out of here.” And then “Til I had all this heart and honor…” Heart, honor and respect is the three points of HiiiPower. So that was just a linear look at the rise to the top.
