In a Southampton team that has so many talented forward players – James Rodriguez, Dani Osvaldo, Rickie Lambert, James Ward-Prowse, Gaston Ramirez – Lallana’s passing is what keeps him in the side week in, week out.

He already has two assists and two goals in eight matches this season, and his link-up play with the strikers ahead of him is what enables Southampton to commit men forward in attack so confidently, even away against top opposition like Man United.

He made five key passes and had 92% accuracy, both more than any other player on the pitch.

A terrible day at the office for Spurs resulted in an embarrassing defeat by London rivals West Ham. In the last decade, only Manchester United and Manchester City have beaten Tottenham by a three-goal margin at home.

Hammers manager Sam Allardyce gambled with his formation, clogging the midfield and restricting Tottenham’s longing to play through the centre of the pitch. Meanwhile, Spurs lacked the width to get around West Ham’s brick wall and by starting the ineffective Jermain Defoe up front they had no players willing to stretch the opposition defence.

Click here for deeper analysis of the tactics behind this result.

Dirty Den Watts was the first character to speak on Eastenders, and there could be no more fitting man to introduce the show.

The original landlord of the Queen Vic, he came into sole control of the pub in the eighties after handing divorce papers to wife Angie on Christmas day 1986. The episode was watched by over 30 million people.

After selling up the Vic, he left Walford, presumed dead after an attempt on his life due to his criminal ties. He was very much alive, returning in 2004 in an episode that attracted 16 million viewers.

His reunion with the show wasn’t fated to last. Actor Leslie Grantham added further emphasis to the “dirty” part of his name by getting caught doing raunchy things on a webcam, and the character of Den was killed off for good and fittingly buried in the cellar of the Queen Vic by his second wife Chrissie.

Marlon Brando delivers one of the most iconic performances in cinematic history as the quiet, intimidating Don Corleone, but the real highlight of The Godfather is the way it intricately portrays an evolving family hierarchy.

Spread over the course of a decade, we see whole relationships form and die and the character’s driving motivations change repeatedly. All of this is accomplished whilst still feeling like a grounded, intimate character story. Truly mesmerising cinema.

Perhaps Christopher Nolan’s epic action thriller got to be the 14th most popular film on the internet on its own merit. BUT PERHAPS it just cheated and planted the idea in our dreams.

With an all-star cast, huge budget and deeply convoluted but unique concept, Inception was a summer blockbuster that proved memorable for all those who saw it.

And the people in your screening did a huge, collective groan as the credits hit too, right?

Van Persie coolly tucks his penalty away to put United ahead. Four of his previous five penalties had been taken to the goalkeeper’s left, so it’s understandable why Palace keeper Julian Speroni chose to commit himself that direction.

A careless mistake by one of the league’s most experienced defenders. O'Shea thought he had more time and space than he did. With Dwight Gayle bearing down upon him, he lunged for the ball and instead took Gayle’s legs. O'Shea was the last defender and so received a straight red card.

Gayle, who was playing semi-pro football in the Conference North two seasons ago, scores his first Premier League goal with a little luck – his penalty was terrible.

A player who exists only to score, to finish the moves his teammates create for him. They usually hang around incredibly high up the pitch waiting for that killer chance. They don’t usually get many touches of the ball in a match, so it’s imperative that their finishing is clinical.

Famous examples include Gary Lineker, Fillipo Inzaghi and the legendary Ferenc Puskas.

Below: Puskas lurks and scores on the edge of the six-yard box, as most good poachers do.
