Gomes will be hoping he gets a few games in preseason in order to put himself in the shop window. He’s nowhere near the first team at the moment, and recent interest in a transfer to PSV Eindhoven seems to have cooled.

The future of these two should be intriguing to watch. Naughton signed several seasons ago from Sheffield Utd and was highly rated. He’s now 24, and struggling for a chance in the first team. He can’t usurp Kyle Walker for his natural right back position, and so last season he had to take his games filling in on the left flank when Assou-Ekotto was injured. Norwich are linked with a bid for him, and this year he will face competition from Danny Rose and maybe even U21 talent Adam Smith – both of whom are younger and technically more proficient. It’s likely Naughton’s ship has sailed at White Hart Lane.

Danny Rose will be hoping to shove his way into the starting eleven after a strong season on loan at Sunderland. With Assou-Ekotto’s future still uncertain, the left-back spot is all up for grabs.

Is he staying? Is he going to Real Madrid? Who knows. Who CARES. The fact that the media, Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane are still hollering obsessive praise at him in a desperate attempt to flirt him into requesting a transfer from Tottenham show that he’s probably staying put for at least another year.

Tottenham have been crying out for a player to fill the void of Rafa Van der Vaart for a year now, and Ryan Gosling lookalike Lewis Holtby might just be the answer.

The Germany U21 captain was his country’s best player at the recent U21 World Cup, and this will be his first actual pre-season with Tottenham. Hopefully with more training time and practice games, he will embed himself in the Tottenham squad and fight for regular starts next season.

It’s been a hell of a year for Daws. When new manager AVB came in just over twelve months ago, he was deemed surplus to requirements and put on the transfer list. Tottenham even accepted a £9m bid for him, but the move broke down over personal terms.

Fast forward to July 2013 and Dawson has reclaimed his captain’s armband, forced himself into the starting XI and is one of the manager’s undisputed favourites.

His passion for Tottenham is an inspiration to all those that play around him.

I believed I could get back into the Tottenham team, I never doubted my own ability and thankfully I showed the manager what I could do and he gave me a chance. When you’ve got a squad of centre-halves like we have it keeps you on your toes. You can’t take your foot off the gas because there is always someone else ready to play. There’s myself, Jan, Younes and Caulks. Top players. Of course I want to stay at the club for the rest of my career. As long as the manager and the chairman want me, I’ll be here.

Another big boost for Tottenham is the return of Sandro. Injured in early January against QPR, he missed the rest of the season.

Without him, Tottenham were weak in defensive midfield. Scott Parker looks to have lost the form he displayed in his debut Tottenham season, Tom Huddlestone lacks mobility and this meant Mousa Dembele was overburdened and looked tired by the season’s close.

The young Brazilian is a true talent, and when partnered with Dembele and his countryman Paulinho, Tottenham’s midfield will be really tough to get behind.

For anyone who has forgotten what the beast can do.

A huge boost for Spurs fans. Kaboul has spent a year in recovery after suffering a serious knee injury in the opening Premier League fixture versus Newcastle a year ago.

He returned to full training in July 2013 and looks to have made a full recovery. If he can retain the form he showed in previous seasons for Tottenham, he will be a huge addition to the centre of defence. Of all Tottenham’s defenders, only he really excels in the air and organising the defence of set-pieces.
