This verse is from the perspective of the murderer Heidgen. He expresses regret and guilt over what he’s done (as he did in real life), but when he tries to turn to Jesus to save his soul he finds that even he cannot cleanse the sins he has committed.

Heidgen is currently serving a minimum of 18 years in prison.

This song is based on a horrific true story. 7 year old Katie Flynn was in a limousine with her mother, returning home after her aunt’s wedding.

Their car was struck head on by Martin R. Heidgen, who was 3 times over the legal limit and had driven a large truck on the wrong side of the road for over two miles. The limousine driver and Katie were killed instantly.

Her mother Jennifer was the only person to make it out of the limo without serious injury. The truck driver was convicted of two counts of 2nd degree manslaughter and DUI.

For reference, that’s only three meters shorter than the Sears Tower.
