The short but sweet Kenzo interview is packed with insights into Mike Diamond’s style and creative process. Here’s a couple more jems to highlight just how Mike goes about getting his “mind right”…

When asked how this collaboration came about, Mike explained:

We were introduced by a mutual friend and collaborator, Spike Jonze. My experience has been that when good people are put together by other good people, good things come of it. And voila.

Naturally, BBoys fans will recall Mr. Jonze as the director of videos such as “Sabotage” and “Sure Shot,” amongst several others.

When asked about what rules he needed to follow when writing the perfect music for fashion models to walk a runway, Mike said:

I think I am more comfortable being ignorant of rules.

Dave Scilken did indeed put together the Young and the Useless, and was integral to Beastie Boys' roots. In his youth, Dave’s graffiti tag was “Shadi,” and he put out the Blister fanzine, himself.

Update: Nov. 24, 6:53 p.m. – A source familiar with the matter said the Beastie Boys have not made such a claim, adding that GoldieBlox has sued the band preemptively. We will update again once we receive more information.

Nov. 24, 10:28 p.m. – A representative for the Beastie Boys explained: “There was no complaint filed, no demand letter (no demand, for that matter) when [GoldieBlox] sued Beastie Boys.”

  • Michael “Mike D” Diamond (vocals, drums)
