Most likely a a Batman refernce. In the first Tim Burton Batman movie, the Joker asks people throughout the movie if they “ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light?” before he killed them.

The Batman movies and the Devil happen to be, arguably, the two primary topics in Captain Murphy’s The Killing Joke.

In addition it refers to the song Moonlight in which he “dances with the devil in the pale moonlight” and the now infamous song “Teach me how to Dougie”

There are a few possibilities for this one. The first is that “they,” whoever they are, assume Captain Murphy is evil because of his deep voice. And they can’t look past that at all.

A second possibility would only be valid if Captain Murphy is in fact a new alter ego of some other rapper. In this case he would be essentially saying that his audience can’t figure out who he is because of his deep voice. Adding in a maniacal laugh just to poke a little fun at us.

A third possibility is that this line is preemptively trolling everyone for thinking Tyler is the Captain… if you listen really closely, his inflections don’t really sound like Tyler’s, and the voice is obviously deepened by effects but it’s not that much deeper than Tyler’s normal rapping voice (throughout the verse, not this particular line).

Ether, also known as prana or tachyon is a element that extends anywhere and is accessible at any point in space time and dimension, according to alchemists. People dont really know who captain murphy truly is, and murphy is playing with this idea, saying that he can be anyone at any time because he is not defined as a specific person. This is inherently quite confusing and frustrating for people wanting to know who murphy is, and causes people to be skeptical that flying lotus is truly murphy, hence the “hahaha.” This also goes back to the spiritual ideas presented in murphy’s first few lines, as the dodecahedron, the shape for ether is found in metatron’s cube, a sacred geometric pattern.

Diethyl ether, also known as ether, is a general anesthetic that can be used recreationally. The euphoric qualities of ether would be the reason for him laughing

A fourth possibility is that he IS evil and is teasing his listeners for being so caught up in how his voice sounds and not paying attention to what he is actually saying hence “Ha Ha Ha they can’t get past the deep voice”.

Earl has a nice double meaning in the first part of this line. If you didnt lose control of your bowels when you heard the first line then you didn’t hear it correctly.

The second way to interpret this is that if you heard the word “continent” instead of “compliment” then you misheard the line. Thus your view of his skills would go from inconsequent or illogical to worth of being sponsored. Genius.

In exchange for all the punches that their group is going to give you, you’d better give them all your shit. Sounds like a fair trade.

Captain Murphy left an unruly “man-made” souvenir on a very special someone’s blouse (or someone that thinks he is very special). And it wasn’t spilled mayo.

He says souven-here which is meant to sound like souvenir.

Many of Earl’s rhymes are internal rhymes and rely strongly on his delivery of the entire word to understand what he is saying thoroughly, noted by Earl himself at the beginning of this verse.

His serves his consonants so hot apparently that its like a hot comb that will burn all the germs away if you run it through your hair.

“The force is strong with this one” is a line pulled from Yoda in Star Wars. In other words, Captain Murphy is skilled.

Midi-chlorians are a bacteria in human cells in the Star Wars trilogy associated with the Force. Average humans have about 2,500 Midi-clorians per cell, while the highest known number was 20,000 for Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader).

Therefore, we know that Captain Murphy is probably pretty fucking skilled. Worthy of Yoda’s appreciation.

“Over 9000” is probably also a reference to a Dragonball scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiMHTK15Pik

“Over 9000” was originally a Dragonball scene reference, but it’s better known after meme culture appropriated it. Since then “Over 9000” has become a generic term used in place of an accurate statistic to highlight the triviality of poorly-researched numbers as reported by the mass media. 4Chan famously used this in September of 2008, when one particular Anonymous troll left a message on Oprah Winfrey’s message board, claiming to represent an organized network of “over 9000” pedophiles. Oprah took the bait, and read the post to her audience.

In the wider scheme of things, Earl’s use of “Over 9000” demonstrates Odd Future’s connection to apathetic geek web culture. Who’d have thought 4Chan and hiphop would ever share such a connection?

These lines actually say, “The Force is strong with this one though/Over 9000 Midi-clorians SAYIN' so.”

Because these lines make a reference to both Star Wars and Dragonball, it is important to note that SAYING sounds like Saiyan, the alien species that Goku from Dragonball is a member of. There are two references for Star Wars, “The Force Is Strong With This One” and “Midi-clorians.” And there are two references to Dragonball, “Over 9000” and “Saiyan”

Don’t forget he puts a bit of emphasis on “midi”.

Like midi controllers.

The layers are strong with this one.

This is an analogy for the relationship Monks have with the Dalai Lama to the relationship fans have with a musical artist.

It can even be extended to the practices of prayer/meditation that Monks do to the mosh pits fans do etc.

The rituals, respect and prayers of monks to the Dalai Lama and the mosh pit crowds that embrace Odd Future music/performances are comparable in their level of devotion.
