efemjay feels like he’s “caught in the Matrix” – he’s surrounded by people who are experiencing an alternate reality, in which the rapper Einstein’s Round 1 and Round 2 verses in the RapGenius battle-rap tournament were good (and didn’t “eat dicks”).

efemjay advanced in Rounds 1 & 2, but did not get much recognition from the judges or fans. He says this is because he’s “too ill” and observers “don’t recognize true skill” – they are taking the Blue Pill from The Matrix movies, which blinds them to reality. Instead of just ingesting the pill orally, they are crushing it, cooking it, and injecting the pill for greater effect.

Taking the Blue Pill is an act of willing suspension of disbelief – a formula for justifying the use of fantastic or non-realistic elements in literary works of fiction.

To this, efemjay is “calling bullshit.” No more pretending. Back to reality.

efemjay calls attention to the resemblance his opponent shares with underground rapper Freddie Gibbs;

saying his opponent is in fact a Mini-Me of the rapper.

efemjay says his machete knife slices his opponent’s ribs to confetti.

Continuing with the “worldwide” theme, efemjay says he performs in the Himalayan Mountain region, home to the mythical yeti;

and for African queens who live in houses (“cribs”) in the Serengeti desert.

To “drop gems” means to deliver good lyrics. efemjay is specific here, saying his “gems” are pearls – “pearls of wisdom.” In so dropping these gems, the pearls of wisdom fly, and this spreads them worldwide.

Here, efemjay is calling out all of the other rappers in the RapGenius battle-rap tournament, for not addressing their opponents. Round 1 featured 64 match-ups, and in most cases, the rappers involved did not really “battle.” efemjay says this is some “bitch shit” – it is weak; effeminate.

He then compares the figurative meaning of “bitch shit” (weak, effeminate) to the literal meaning – female fecal matter. “Diarrhea running down your girl’s thigh.”

Going back to the cassette reference from the previous line, efemjay contrasts the listener’s desire to rewind and re-listen to his tape, with his own desire to eject Antoine Johnson’s tape, and then throw it down the Memory Hole, forgetting he ever owned it.

To “catch wreck” means to “gain respect, acquire props, receive admiration, or obtain recognition for creating dope lyrics.” efemjay says he not only “catches” wreck, he couldn’t escape it if he wanted to.

efemjay says his lines are so memorable that, when listening to his music on cassette tape, you constantly want to rewind to hear what he said again. This is all before Antoine Johnson’s time.

efemjay contrasts his experience (“aged like fine wine”) to the youth of his opponent.
