Here, efemjay revisits his first line from Verse 1 – “My rhymes are criminal” – but instead of shouting out a criminally minded classmate, he lays the charge of criminality at former Vice President Dick Cheney. efemjay then references the 2006 hunting incident in which Cheney shot his friend in the face. Underscoring the charges of criminality, efemjay says he’s “breaking every law” like Dick Cheney, perhaps in reference to the evisceration of the Constitution under the Bush-Cheney regime, as well as Cheney’s connections to Halliburton.

Despite the number of years it has been, and despite the changes in efemjay’s life, he cannot give up his love for hip-hop. No matter if anyone listens or not, he can’t stop writing and recording raps. He is compelled to make music.

Here, efemjay intimates that he was in love with an imagined opponent’s mother, and she broke his heart by leaving him for a black man. The way it is phrased is intended to be disrespectful to the opponent’s mother, and thus the opponent.

Distinguishing himself from the supposed homophobia of Matt Magnus (who killed a gay man, though possibly not out of homophobic hate), efemjay alludes to the virulently anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church – the proprietors of the infamous GodHatesFags.com – and says that he is more in line with gays (“fags”) in the culture war, as “fags hate God” and efemjay is an atheist.

Not all gay people are atheists and even fewer still hate God.

Phil McClain was the name of a gay man who used to hang around local parks in the Manitou Beach area. In 1994, an Addison man named Matt Magnus shot and killed Phil McClain in McClain’s home. It was theorized that perhaps Magnus shot McClain after McClain made a pass at him – revealing his “fagness.” An alternate story says McClain had sexually assaulted a member of Magnus’s family. If this is the case, then Magnus gets a raw deal here, being accused of a homophobic hate crime.

The Phil McClain/Matt Magnus story was thoroughly explored in efemjay’s material from the 1990s, along with raps from Booger D and Molson Ice, the latter of whom viewed Magnus as a hero.

Update: Molson Ice renounces homophobia and especially homophobic violence.

efemjay’s rhymes are very good (“mad fat” – “mad” meaning very, “fat” meaning good). The double meaning of “fat” is explored by comparing his very “fat” rhymes to John Popper of the band Blues Traveler – who was literally very fat – prior to his gastric-bypass surgery.
