3.1 Phillip Lim Text lights up on hover - good. Annotation covers image - bad. by Test page

If we had 10¢ for every time we heard “effortlessly cool” as beauty inspiration, we’d have enough money to buy a cup of coffee (deli, not Starbucks).

But lead makeup artist Francelle Daly gave it to us straight: “These girls spend time in front of the mirror; they don’t run out the door without makeup.”

Apparently not, since Phillip Lim’s runway face consisted of Nars moisturizer, foundation, setting powder, concealer, blush, eye shadow, brow gel, and two colors on the lips (Kenya lip liner and Mambo eyeliner).

Both finger- and toenails were polished (Essie’s Sand Tropez and No Place like Chrome, respectively). And hair was given a traditional blowout with Fekkai Full Blown Volume Styling Whip before being teased, pinned, and curled to give it a destroyed look.

Sometimes even a Downtown girl has to give a damn.

Richard Chai Text lights up on hover - good. Annotation covers image - bad. by Test page

We rolled into Richard Chai looking for trouble, and we found it: Deborah Lippmann’s so-new-it-hasn’t-been-born-yet polish Harem Silks from Bombay. It winked at us from every model’s hand in the joint. Dark, iridescent, and matte — just our style.

Since we’re not the most patient puppy in the pack, we asked Lippmann for a fix until the shade hits the market later this year. She suggested a base of Dark Side of the Moon, one coat of Wicked Game, and the Flat Top top coat to finish.

We can already see the light.

The Big Picture: Gypsy goes grunge.

Brown-Eyed Girl: Makeup artist Val Garland and her team created smoky chocolate lids with Sephora waterproof liner in dark brown matte as a base and Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil in bourbon smudged in the crease. They finished with Dior Diorshow mascara in chestnut on top lashes.

Plain Jane: Skin stayed matte with Stila Stay All Day foundation, and cheekbones lit up with a swipe of Benefit’s Watt’s Up. Lips were colored with a beige chubby stick and enhanced with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in clear.
