The chorus is meant to be a conversation with Drake and “fame.” The whole song tracks his experience with “fame” since Thank Me Later dropped.

At times, people said that he “fell off” or regressed, and the chorus demonstrates Drake’s uncertainty about his fame moving forward. (Drake is probably the most polarizing figure in the rap game.)

He eventually says that, although “fame” doesn’t love him, he will not let it go until he dies (over his dead body).

He is referring to the decision he made prior to being signed where he chose to leave television and enter music. This is alluded to in “Look What You’ve Done”, as well. In that song he talks about speaking with his uncle over the decision to take music seriously and drop television.

He made such a huge life changing decision that he had no choice but to succeed to prove to everyone including himself that he made the right decision to pursue his dream in music.

Drake’s birthday is October 24th, and his attachment to that month has led him to becoming a part of October’s Very Own.

During the fall season, clocks are turned back one hour in some places, almost as if to “revisit the past” in a sense since the time had already passed.

Take Care dropped November 15th, 2011, and on many tracks including this one Drake revisits past experiences.

Drake really did drop out of high school against his mother’s wishes. After dropping out, he slowly forgets everything that he has learned.

The wordplay is on “papers” since paper is another way of saying money. He needs to make paper to be paid, not turn them in (as you would do a school paper).

Drake eventually got his high school diploma in 2012.

(2.0 refers to Team Shady 2.0, the label’s new roster AKA The 2.0 Boyz.)

An abridged quote from Arthur Jensen (played by Ned Beatty) in the film Network.

It is referring to how most Americans see America differently than what certain people claim on paper… and how the government is owned by corporations (big businesses and big banks).
