Following Soul’s mention of Chicago rapper, Chief Keef, Wale matches him with another from that Chi-town, Lil Reese; and goes even further with a twist on one of his lines from “Us”:

Keef and Reese have a song together called “Traffic”.

It takes less time and labor to rob and kill someone then it does to stand on the corner and sell drugs. “Hammer” is slang for the remsembling shape of a handgun, not the hammer of the gun.

No matter what color handkerchief (flag/bandana) someone has, even if they are enemies, they’ll still hang with Wale & Soul.

Also a build off the previous line as handkerchiefs are used to clean up messes.

Wale’s riding clean in souped-up vehicle like Bruce Wayne (aka Batman) in his Batmobile, while examining or contemplating.

Probably the best four lines of the song in allusion to Chess and the drug game. First, the build off the intro about the board being made of water. “Water” – PCP laced joint, dipped in embalming fluid, it’s plagued the streets of the DMV for decades.

“See five”: (1) “5” being short for 5-0; (2) Chess’s Sicilian Defense is the first move by a Black Pawn to C5, as a defense mechanism, in order gain the upper hand in offense, late game (ie hitting the otherside’s border).

If the police see five grams of hard narcotics, you’re getting a minimum sentence of five years. If the drug dealer(s) knows they been discovered they’re leaving the city, state, country, and/or continent in order to escape.

In the last line, the board has essentially been flipped, as the drug dealer is know represented by the white pieces. If the player with the white pieces isn’t strategic and careful, they will get beaten bad like criminal who runs, trying to elude the police. Police tend to beat the runners, maybe even with their billy clubs.

Pawns are peasants and the lowest piece in chess. A peasant couldn’t get a queen because a king gets his queen. Also it’s nearly impossible for a enemy pawn to take down a queen.

Wale knows that the assets of fame will quickly change not just and artists, but celebrities of all forms. He hit on this in his song “Money Changes”. Although Wale is making millions off his records, he stays loyal to his day ones.

Is it odd that she tells him to do one thing, but really wants the opposite? Not when she’s conflicted by her feelings, she tries to deceive herself about the weird attraction towards her lover. Dhalia may put forth that she doesn’t want him there, but she really wants him with her.
