Many often insult the poor / homeless for drug use, but AZ points out how for just about anyone in that position, life is destined to be a bitch, regardless of how hard one works, and something like smoking weed helps ease the inevitable pain. Nas’s following verse has a little more hopeful tone in regards to this idea.

The “not crying on Sundays” embodies the hopeful spirit that goes along with the song. Homosexuality will hopefully lose the negative stigma, and will not be seen as a sin by more religious individuals on Sundays (Christianity’s day of worship).

It’s singling out Christianity as the biggest voice in this battle. Many groups are intolerant, but in this issue, in this country, the Christian right is the main culprit (and then the oppressive rap culture referenced before).

This little scene epitomizes Kanye’s struggles as a producer-rapper. Hiphop found his raps to be pretty dope, but immediately retracted his compliments when Kanye said that it was he who was actually rapping. No one wanted to give Yeezy a chance, even if they saw talent.
