Come on, it’s a pretty intriguing notion for the meme “complicated fiction” writer to also be sick at math – and not just any math! The meme hardest most philosophical kind of math.

I mean come on, dude wrote IJ AND a rather technical popularization of foundational math. Not bad!

In any case, I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that DFW’s meme was partially responsible for my own impulse to (partially) major in Math & Philosophy, tho I’m far from “quite good” at it.

Rather, I’d paint my math skills with roughly the same brush as my squash skills: justtttt barely good enough without ACTUALLY being good. Like, if you suck at math or squash, I’ll definitely beat you. But if you’re even a little bit ACTUALLY good, you’ll destroy me.
