As the story goes in the mid to late 70’s NY public schools cut funding to the music programs. Which led kids in the city to find new ways to express themselves musically. Kool Herc, Afrika Bambatta, and DJ Hollywood were some of the first to make a name for themeselves using turntables as their instruments. Some even used power stolen from street lights in the park to power their soundsystems
