Mos Def is from the area of Brooklyn around Broadway and Myrtle Ave (as he explains in the song “Champion Requiem”). The intersection of Broadway and Myrtle ave is directly underneath the J M Z, and this part of the subway is above ground and casts a considerable shadow.
