The technological age brought about the rise of ultra-wealthy “nerds” such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg, who have proven that all that’s needed to change perceptions is showing how an identity can make you a lot of money. Granted, BBC ruminated on this phenomenon and found that monetary associations are one segment; other desirable traits like intelligence and quirkiness are directly associated with nerd-dom. The original Star Trek series began in 1966, just over a decade and a half after “nerd” first entered the lexicon courtesy of Dr. Seuss in If I Ran The Zoo.

Clancy Martin: The Confucian philosopher Mencius (382-303 BCE) tells the story of how an ordinary person feels if he sees a child fall into a well. Any person, Mencius argues, will feel alarm and distress — not because he hoped for anything from the parents, nor because he feared the anger of anyone because he failed to save the child, nor again because he wanted to enhance his own reputation by this act of modest heroism. This assumption by Mencius fails to take into account the psychological association we feel with other humans. We have a familiarity that allows us to, to an extent, realistically visualize ourselves in the position of the child at the bottom of the well. Once we’ve found ourselves on the other side of the well, we think of what we hope the transported counterpart would do for us. Only then are we compelled to react and sometimes act.

deductive fallacies are useful inductive arguments. eg ad hominems - as gussied up under terms like 'conflict of interest' and 'risk of bias' - are excellent tools for evaluating studies. factchecking organizations have been, and still are, being tried; and such criticism forms regular columns in newspapers. The public debate is rife with fallacies, half-lies, evasions of counter-arguments, etc. Many of these are easy to spot for a careful and intelligent reader/viewer - particularly one who is acquainted with the most common logical fallacies and cognitive biases. The claim holds true for the latter four albums, but The Strokes' debut Is This It is not just regarded as perfect, but as one of the greatest albums ever created. Not only tearing through the best-of-decade lists (Rolling Stone – #2, NME – #1, FACT – #2, Billboard – #3, and Pitchfork – #7), it has graced many best-of-all-time lists. The only album mentioned that comes close is Interpol’s Turn on the Bright Lights, which found as many lukewarm reviews as ecstatic ones.

1) My personal life, or the world in general? If you mean my life, I’d go with directing my school’s production of Hairspray in grade 11. A ton of fun, and I gained a lot of valuable experience from it. Life in general? I think it would be amazing if the beginning of the universe was annotated, whichever way it may have happened.

2) Ah, but what if the real question is: have I ever been in tune?

3) My most proud moment was watching my high school’s theatre company perform the musical I directed. Five days, six shows. It was one of the most amazing, humbling, and heartwarming experiences I’ve had.
