If this is heaven
I need something more
Reflektor by Arcade Fire (Ft. David Bowie)

This world is not good enough to be heaven, so if that’s what it is intended to be then Win hopes something better is waiting in the afterlife.

I tossed my eggs in the biracial basket. Democracy Inaction: How Not to Vote for the Mayor of New York City by Ezra Glenn 31

Ezra plays off of the timeless idiom:

“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”

Usually you don’t want to put all of your resources in one place, lest you risk losing them all. Ezra is being brazen in his biracial support… but since he’s talking about his mayoral vote, he only really has one egg here to begin with.

Campo by Toro Y Moi

The timeless adage:

“You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”

He’d actually like to make her leave him, so that once she’s gone she’d realize what she lost. She’d feel the absence of him and understand how much he cared.

Leaving nothing inside
Except for 100 days and nights
Campo by Toro Y Moi

Sequoias are a type of redwood tree. Presumably, this forest represents the distance between them. He feels empty when he’s so far from her; the only thing he feels is the agony of time away.

Can I be your best friend?
Can I make it to the end?
Can you give me some of what
You went and gave them?
Come Walk With Me by M.I.A.

In light of the social media and “friending” someone online, this bar almost feels like she’s mocking us. Asking someone to be their best friend sounds absurd, right? Or is this what our relationships are today?

She is however, actually asking for our commitment to something. This impersonal digital age is now personal because she wants us to join her in something she cares about.

Can we give some of the attention, “friendship”, energy that we give in online relationships to this bigger (real-life) movement she is talking about?
