Referencing an iconic line off Biggie’s song “Juicy:”
Since Q is about ten years younger than Big, the Nintendo console of his youth was the Nintendo 64, instead of the SNES.
SEGA Genesis and NINTENDO64 are Japanese video game consoles, respectively released in 1988 and 1996.
Q’s grandma got him a Genesis even in times when they couldn’t afford it. Golden Eye was a popular 1997 N64 game
Schoolboy’s label-mate Kendrick Lamar also expresses his love for the Sega Genesis and Nintendo game consoles.
Another way of saying ‘see gold and I was away at war’, in his broke mentality he would have to put down the video games to go out into the real world (rather than a video game fantasy/an escape) to fight for his money through illegal means. Also, being a reference to B.I.G could be a reflection of him looking at these successful people with nice things (gold) and wanting that; so while they had it, he was out putting in that work.
