Joey here has kind of renovated the ‘rags to riches’ phrase with this line, allowing us to visualize the material progress his musical success has granted him.
For him to say this in just one line kind of reflects the speediness of him ‘blowing up’, from being a 17 year old young man that used to chill pon a porch to riding round in Porsches like this:

The jungle has the premise of ‘survival of the fittest’, with several hierarchical levels – Joey draws some parallels between the jungle and the world we live in, more specifically the music industry. The jungle as a metaphor for the hip-hop industry was publicized widely by Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch the Throne album.

He’s got to learn how to eat [survive, earn money, stay strong] in an environment just as challenging and unpredictable as the jungle. The world we live in too is full of metaphorical hyenas and vultures.

Both are scavenger animals which means they generally feed on prey that has already been killed or died of natural causes. Joey’s vultures are the haters – the ones waiting for him to fail and swoop in. While the hyena’s are the critics who will make jest of him and commentate in an attempt to undermine his talent. Also notice both animals are at the bottom of the food chain and stay in packs – Joey doesn’t have any respect for individuals who gang up and stab you in the back.

Notice that neither Hyenas nor Vultures live in the jungle, but rather the ecosystem known as the Savannah.

A rat race is a competitive routine, usually toward success or wealth, that ultimately amounts to nothing or something very superficial.

Joey, and the rest of Pro Era, aren’t going through this circuitous process to succeed—they’re just coming through and taking the cheese (slang for money).

This is also a bit of word play, as it is widely assumed that rats like cheese. Many rats are actually semi-lactose intolerant.

Joey explores this theme briefly in the beginning of World Domination with a sample from Pinky and the Brain, a TV show about mice that unsuccessfully try to take over the world every episode.

His biting, satirical, political and very funny verse delivered in his rapid-fire performance style resonated with the punk movement that had begun to pick up speed in the late 70s.

After touring with most of punk’s seminal and ground breaking bands including the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks, The Fall, and Elvis Costello, to name but a few, he began to draw large crowds in his own right. Joy Division were proud to open for JCC on numerous occasions and New Order later supported him on their first joint Australian tour.

A reference to stray bullets. No matter what Cole achieves in life (good grades, popular songs), he could be killed at any time, completely unintentionally. He’s asking for protection from this also.

Moreover, we know that Cole’s mention of “A’s” is not hyperbole, since he graduated college magna cum laude.

Some websites thrive on gossip and rumours, which half the time aren’t even true. For example, critiquing what a celebrity wears to an award show or out in public in lists such as ‘Worst Dressed’.

Ask yourself:
Is it your life they are reporting?
Does this incident concern or involve you?

The answer:
No. therefore, there is no reason to care. Such stories bear no relevence to your life.

Our bodies and brains reward us for meeting our basic needs for survival – sex to continue the race, and food to stay alive.

War, however, killing another man, is met with negative emotions and psychological trauma.

Akala is questioning whether war is actually natural or necessary, for it makes us feel so bad and is maladaptive in survival terms – it makes no sense for it to exist.
