A lot of people think the disses on this album are directed to Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, when in actuality their beef had been squashed years prior to the release of When The Smoke Clears.

Rather, the line is most likely a diss to Playa Fly, an ex-affiliate of Three Six Mafia who has had on and off beef with the group as recently as 2016.

The CD cover in question might be Fly’s 1999 record Da Game Owe Me, released just a year before When The Smoke Clears.

This is a particularly heartbreaking stanza. The imagery suggests that Elias Bender Rønnenfelt (or a character created by Rønnenfelt) is making his plea to a woman, perhaps trying to rectify a broken relationship. As she places her hand on his mouth, as if to silence him, he has a moment of quiet, pensive reflection, ultimately realizing that he is wasting his time.

Given the malicious nature of the narrator, these lines could also be taken sarcastically. This could explain the third-person description of the “saviour”. The narrator is mocking the superficial image of some profound and perfect “saviour” who is “[waltzing] around” in false perfection.

These lyrics reflect Elias Bender Rønnenfelt’s succinct and calloused demeanor (as is usually materialized in interviews), while also underpinning his hubris-tinged private (sexual) demands.

Rønnenfelt’s maverick/adventurous behavior is also seen in Iceage’s live performances, where he has been known to indiscriminately make out with male audience members.

There seems to be a deeper and darker meaning behind the “longings” that “no offer can stand.” It may be that sexuality is part of the suggestion here (perhaps indicated by the vulnerability of the “little bird” in the chorus), but the song as a whole hardly seems to suggest that sexuality (homosexuality or otherwise) is the main theme. It seems to me that the narrator in this song is rather implying some sort of innate and voracious maliciousness, selfishness (“Though I am a taker”), manipulative tendency (“On my fingers” and “When its all you have left”), and evil. The “longing” cannot be fulfilled by the goodness of others: nobody would offer the twisted fantasy he desires.
