Genius prides itself in maintaining easy-to-read and well-organized lyric formatting. Keeping this in mind will help readers comprehend the lyrics and the structure of the song.

Note that if there are annotations on your song, you will see something that looks like this when you go to edit lyrics: [Text](000000). These brackets, parentheses and IDs are used to anchor annotations to specific lyrics and cannot be removed by editing the lyrics. You can, however, still edit the lyrics (even if they are contained by brackets), so long as the brackets, parentheses and annotation ID remain.
Staff-Approved Lyrics
If you are unable to directly edit the lyrics to your song, it may have already been approved by a member of our in-house Lyrics team. You can check to see if this is the case by going to the right side of the page and hovering over the ⓘ symbol — if it says “Lyrics approved by…”, it’s been approved by a member of our team and will require staff to make updates.
When this happens, please submit a lyrics edit proposal and reach out to lyrics@genius.com to have it approved.
