KTara how can you even make that interpretation. the “a lie” part is a reiteration of it being “not like they say”.
this is even backed up by the lyrics immediately after. they aren’t “It drowns my feelings in the sea/I dried out over on the beach” as it currently reads on this page. It’s actually, if you listen to the song, “I drown my feelings in the sea/They dried out over on the beach.” her feelings came back to her.

What “they say” is that it’s “a lie, that it’s hard to make it stay.” So Nagano is saying that it’s not a lie that it’s hard to make it stay, i.e., it’s actually hard.

it says: “a lie that it’s hard to make it stay” which means, that people keep saying that it would be hard to love and make it stay, but this is a lie. Don’t you all be so pessimistic please :)

Ritual unions on the surface is about marriage. But it’s about any that we engage in. It’s also about sex it’s ritualistic. It’s also a driving force for us to get with people. And since now the singer has had premarital sex with its first ritual Union, now we move on to the second ritual Union of marriage. However, now they can no longer wear a white dress in the wedding because of pre determined actions that they engaged in. They also realize the complexity of marriage, even though that they love this person, they still want to have sex with other people. So that’s why the mistress and the spirit is holding their hands half of them wants to be married and be with one, but the other half wants to be with many and fulfill those basic. Human desires.

This is actually, imo, a somewhat murky allusion to what it’s like to be a woman “in ritual.” Or a woman who is to be married. The allusion to white dress and mistress to me reads like the befuddlment of the “virgin vs. whore” complex of being someone’s wife. You essentially get married and have to pledge fidelity and union with your mate, and traditionally, the bride wears white to signify her virginity, or purity, sexually, for her husband. But women, like men, are not pure. Who the hell is. So I read this as her grappling with the human and the holy spirit about having to be either a virgin or a whore. Just like the Catholic Virgin Mary vs Prostitute Mary of the Bible.
