Love The Future didn’t sell a trilion records or win album of the year, but that doesn’t make it a failure. Chester French got to work with artists they respected (Pharrell) and make an album they respec. Not bad!

The year is 2009! Chester French goes from college grads to “next big thing” in 3.7 seconds. They got signed by Pharrell (after being pursued by Kanye West).

One of Music 4 Tngrs themes is the comedown after the hype. What does it even mean to be the Penetration?

D.A. chose to move back to his mom’s house Milwaukee to record Music 4 Tngrs, which is in stark contrast to the hype-cycle around their first album, Love The Future.

Jay Electronica’s good friend, Diddy sums up this advice in two words: NO BITCHASSNESS. Don’t be subservient (slave) or sheepish (lamb) just because you’re on trial. Hold yourself accountable, make eye contact, etc.

The “dove” and “lamb” mentions might allude to Jesus’s title, Lamb of God, and his baptism.

Lamb of God (John 1:29):

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The dove (Holy Spirit):

16 And Jesus, when he was baptized [by John the Baptist in the River Jordan], went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Doves are commonly used to symbolize peace, while sheep symbolize innocence and obedience.

Jay Electronica signed a major label record deal, but he refuses to play by the rules of the mainstream. It’s been more than two years since he signed with Roc Nation and he hasn’t released an album (or much music at all), while most mainstream rappers steadily churn out radio singles, albums, and mixtapes.

WE JUST WANT YOU TO DROP AN ALBUM, JAY! MAKE A COLLEGE DROPOUT, NOT A MAINSTREAM DROP OUT

When hybrid power forwards run pick and rolls with Steve Nash, good things happen. (See, Shawn Marion, Boris Diaw, and Dirk Nowitzki). Clark has always been a skilled player, so it’s nice to see him find the right situation for his talents.

Earl Clark was a star at Louisville and previously played with the Phoenix Suns, just missing Mike D'Antoni’s tenure as the coach.

Fat Boys, “The Fat Boys”

Beatboxing was a huge part of the Fat Boys' style. Their beatboxer, Darren “Buffy” Robinson a.k.a. The Human Beatbox, was a pioneer of the genre, right up there with Doug E. Fresh

Let it burn! After his Saab was torched, he went off to buy a better, less flammable car. The music critic Eric Harvey, one of the smarter critics of Rap Genius, compares it to “You found a sweater on the ocean floor” in Cousins, like digging for symbolism in nothing. Or you could compare the choice of Saab, an Eighties preppy touchstone, to burning the old incarnation of the band. After a brief contretemps with the previous owners of the Saabs, who did not know that the record label was buying the cars in order to immolate them, the band told Pitchfork that Rostam Batmanglij’s parents used to drive a Saab. (His mother talked to the New Yorker about his upbringing for the album release.) Batmanglij grew up in McLean, Virginia, easily the preppiest Washington, D.C. suburb, where Saabs and Volvo sedans were once ubiquitous. This may or may not be true, but editor MoMilli, grew up there too and just says, as does Heems from Das Racist:
https://twitter.com/HIMANSHU/status/330518866180583426
The New York Post reported on the incident, as if was speculated that the burning of the car had violated new regional Clean Air Act restrictions. (They have yet to explain the Steve Buscemi angle.)

In a very Maboo kind of comeback, Ezra Koenig said the video would’ve worked better had the record label paid up for a $600,000 Bugatti instead.

Torching a car can also refer to overtaking or outspeeding it. It may have been torched because it was their getaway car and they were trying to escape the law, as is supported by the lines proceeding these. Her ‘torching the Saab’ represents that she threw away what they had together, but it was his fault too – he’d already started looking for other relationships. Is he waiting to exhale?!
