Famous recording studio in Times Square, Manhattan. Obviously, a ton of hits were recorded there, but it was also where 50 Cent was stabbed during his feud with Ja-Rule’s Murder Inc. camp

The New York studio has closed, but they’ve opened up shop in Miami

This is a double entendre. Quite literally, a rolling stone will not gather much, if any, moss.

Secondly, Jay is comparing himself to the legendary band, the Rolling Stones, who are still rocking shows at age 60 plus. Jay is saying he will continue doing what he does and the Grim Reaper will not catch him.

ACCEPTED COMMENT: He’s also using a metaphor about being away from home to describe the Grim Reaper not being able to find him and take his life. The Grim Reaper might come around to get Jay, but Jay’s not even home.

Like Michael Corleone in The GodFather II, Jay can’t leave the rap game (he probably should’ve listened to this line before he declared “retirement” after the Black Album)
Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) says something similar to this in The Godfather III:

Everytime I get out they pull me back in

Adrian Dantley is actually off the scene – when you consider he won the scoring title twice, was inducted in the Hall of Fame, and scored over 20,000 points, he’s sort of underrated

Dominique Wilkins is remembered more fondly as one of the best dunkers in NBA history. He often battled with Michael Jordan in the Dunk Contest

Willis Reed is probably the greatest New York Knick of all time. He split time between playing center and power forward, so he went hard in the paint!

However, this line was originally about a different Knick-associated figure. Lyricist “Billy-Bill” Waring remembers:

I didn’t write the line “Or when Willis Reed stood so tall …” at first. My original was “When Marv Albert made the call, Yes and It Counts! That’s basketball.” When I submitted it, I guess they knew the legal ramifications of getting clearances from Marv or whatever, but there’s also an old practice where producers put in a line or two to get a songwriting credit. I’m not mad at ‘em. I was cool with the change because it was still about the Knicks.

An inverted rhyme: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the starting center on Kurtis' favorite team (they didn’t have Fantasy Basketball back then)

We at RapGenius endorse Kareem as a baller and as a genius, he’s written like five great books..We also think he looks like The Based God Lil B

These three are all basketball legends. Wilt Chamberlain was the first and only player to ever score 100 points in a game.

“The Big O” refers to Oscar Robertson, who is the only player to average a triple-double for an entire season. During the 1961-2 season, he averaged 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game.

Finally, Jerry West is a famous Los Angeles Laker, as well as being the man depicted in the NBA logo .
