Vince, in an act to not turn out like his mother did, will burn the Bible (“book of life”) rewrite in his own thought and theory.

The “King James” line is not a reference to Lebron James, but rather a reference to the King James translation (the one with the “thee’s” and “thou’s) of the Holy Bible. (If you like, you can hop over to our Poetry Genius section of the site to read the King James Version of the Bible)

The King James Version was a newer translation of the Holy Bible when it was first printed and it has been argued that the translation itself is far from the original, like the same way that Vince intends to rewrite it.

Kingston is a fairly small city in Pennsylvania, which is where Title Fight hails from. Being a fairly small city could mean it’s a lonely place without much to do. The writer could be directing the line to the people who feel lonely in Kingston.

These lines could have two different meanings in my opinion:

  1. The title track of this album Shed is about people who get into the Hardcore scene then leave it as if it was a fad. These lines could have correlation to Shed, because they could be directed to someone who is safe in their newly shed skin.

  2. The line could just be directed to someone who is insecure about themselves (“safe in your skin”) and the writer could be telling them that once they feel better about themselves, they could see each other again.

This line is continuing from the two lines before, if you haven’t seen a black man on a horse, or Chief Keef’s new Porsche, then what Mick has will blow your mind.

At the same time, if you have seen those two rather amazing things, you still won’t be able to describe what Mick is bring to the table.

“Shed your skin” continues with the cold blooded analogy that appears throughout the song. A cold blooded animal, like a snake, sheds their skin for growth.

Shed, according to vocalist/bassist of Title Fight is about people who get into the hardcore scene and then leave it as if it was a trend. The lyrics are directed to people who treat Hardcore Punk as a scene.

Notice the line “You’re cold, like the blood that runs through your veins”. The writer is comparing the people to a cold blooded animal, which can change with the temperature (or for the sake of the metaphor, the music scenes).

These two lines could be directed at people who are not experimenting, or “not putting their fingertip in the water”. The person has their life together, but they don’t do anything fun.

The song explores experimentation, and these lyrics are prime examples of what they’re talking about. They use the phrase: “dip your fingers in the water” as a metaphor for trying something out the first time, and being nervous about it, so you are cautious and test the “water” with your finger tips.

The next line implies that what is being experimented is frowned upon (by parents, friends, and/or government) so after you test it, or try it, you wonder if you will get caught.

The writer catches on to the lie the rich man is telling him. The rich man is planting the seeds so that the forest looks better for the poor to look at, but the writer believes this is not true.
