Jean has been telling this non-linear, cyclical story of a time-travelling assassin for over a decade, beginning with her 2003 song “Chapter One: Destiny,” which is a prequel to the entire tale. On her 2013 song “FUCKERY LEVEL 3000,” she revealed the obstacles facing this assassin in her everyday life as an office worker.

In a 2012 Genius interview, Grae spoke about the assassin concept:

I’ve become this assassin who, from the song, loses it and starts to have no remorse for anything. I get the opportunity to come back and say, I didn’t do it right. I wanted to be a superhero, but this is just fucking all wrong. So I get the opportunity to go back and do things again.
