This is one of my all time favourite albums in ANY genre. I love how honest Slug is as an emcee and his lyricism and metaphors are incredible. I also love Ant’s production that really creates a very reflective but depressing atmosphere. Incredible album right here. Listen to it if you haven’t already.

This was the first Jazz album that I ever listened to. I completely love this album and play it regularly in the evenings when I am chilling out. I love how smooth it is and this remains one of my all time favourite Jazz records.

This could be referring to people who disliked the earlier releases from Mac who are still judging his music today like it was his old work. Mac had worked hard on his latest releases which showed his evolution as an artist especially from the album “Watching Movies with the Sound Off.” Mac is happy with where he is today and what is going to come and he wants people to put to one side what they heard in the past and focus on his music at the present moment.

As he is rapping over Mobb Deep’s Survival Of The Fittest, he has decided to start of his verse with the same line that Prodigy spits to pay homage to the acclaimed hip hop duo.

There's a war going on outside, no man is safe from
― “Survival of the Fittest” by Mobb Deep

The song “Survival of the fittest” is taken from their widely regarded, classic album “The Infamous”

A-F-R-O has fallen in love with this girl but because of his past experiences and memories as a teen, he is being held back from approaching her because of his fear of his past repeating itself. By not talking to her, he is playing it safe but if he talks to her, then he might get the girl he loves or he risks getting hurt.

This line shows the villains conflicting feelings. The fact that he has chosen to pray to God to get rid of his sins may imply that he wants to change his ways. However, he is only doing this for the act of killing demons rather than finding redemption in religion.

“The fallen matches” is a metaphor for everything that A-F-R-O is inspired by. The flame is a metaphor for the music he creates as a result of the matches lighting it. A-F-R-O is in charge of his own story and can choose what he wants to write about and what path he wants to take hence “Flip the page, I’m the novel’s author,” but he still looks for other things to inspire him.

A-F-R-O continues from the previous line about “Vampires” which is a metaphor for all the fake rappers and studio gangsters. A-F-R-O is slaying these fakes by going against the trends in mainstream hip hop and staying true to himself.

Sometimes, after someone has done something horrific, you can feel their anger and reasoning behind the act. Something must have caused them to be this angry. This “scent of anger” can influence other children to do the same thing. They become desensitized to the violence and follow the crowd by being violent, angry thugs.
