1910 Fruitgum Company

Originally Jeckyll & The Hydes, 1910 Fruitgum Company was one of several bubblegum pop bands of the late 1960s that was aimed at the tween market looking for fun songs with simple hooks and elementary lyrics in contrast to the deeper and darker psychedelic rock most associated with the era. Like many bubblegum pop bands, 1910 Fruitgum Company was masterminded by Buddha Records' in-house music producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz.

The band became a household name in 1967 in the US, UK and Australia when their first single “Simon Says” became a top five single in all three countries. The following year, “1, 2, 3 Red Light” become their second US top five. Their third and final big hit came in 1969 with “Indian Giver”. All three songs sold over a million copies

The band would score a total of five top 40 US hits before releasing the very different and unsuccessful Hard Ride in late 1969. They disbanded in 1970 and the peak years of the bubblegum pop era ended soon after.

In 2001, founding members Frank Jeckyll and Floyd Marcus brought the act back on the road with new members. As of 2016, he was still keeping the legacy of bubblegum pop alive with performances for enthusiastic crowds consisting of various hits from contemporary bands of the era mixed in with the band’s own singles.
