Alexander O'Neal

About Alexander O'Neal

Alexander O'Neal is an R&B/soul singer born in Natchez, Mississippi. At one time he was the lead singer of Minneapolis funk outfit The Time until a conflict with Prince lead to him being replaced with Morris Day. He still ended up making hits with two other castoffs from The Time who ran afoul of Prince: superproducers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis.

Beginning in 1985, Alex would become known for a string of hit albums recorded with Jam & Lewis, as well as hits like “Saturday Love” and “Never Knew Love Like This” with duet partner and labelmate Cherrelle.

Among O'Neal’s own hits are his debut single “Innocent,” the Top 5 R&B single “Criticize,” and his R&B #1 hit “Fake.”

After a long hiatus following his five albums for Tabu Records, O'Neal returned in 2008 with a covers album entitled Alex Loves.
