Myrkur

AKA: Amalie Bruun

About Myrkur

Myrkur (Icelandic, meaning “darkness”) is Amalie Bruun, a Danish musician and actress. Her music is a mix of Scandinavian black metal and nordic folk. She has released two studio albums, namely M in 2015 and Mareridt in 2017, as well as a self-titled EP in 2014 and the live album Mausoleum in 2014, which featured acoustic renditions of songs off M, performed in a burial chamber accompanied by a Norwegian girls choir.

Because of her role as a female musician in metal, Myrkur has been forced to withstand many death threats and abuse from the metal community, which has spurred much-needed scrutiny of the metal subculture in terms of elitism and misogyny.
