Bassnectar

AKA: Lorin Ashton

About Bassnectar

Bassnectar is the pseudonym of Lorin Ashton, American DJ and electronic music producer. Born in 1978, he is one of the longest standing and most influential figures in the California dance scene. As the name of his label Amorphous Music suggests, Lorin’s music is versatile and dynamic, but is typically grounded by heavy, bass-centric grooves.

Among his many sources of musical inspiration—Metallica, Run-D.M.C., Nirvana, and others—he has named the Loma Prieta earthquake as a direct influence on his music. In an interview, he said:

That was one of the first time I felt absolutely massive, uncontrollable sub-bass, as a child, and it’s only been the last couple decades that humankind has been able to harness in sub-bass and play games with it.

Lorin has released upwards of 20 albums and EPs over the years, and has remixed songs by the likes of Ellie Goulding and The Glitch Mob.
